Harley & Raz

Harley and Raz  are residents of the Isle of Man. Their owners, Wendy and Douglas, commissioned me to paint their portraits in 2011, giving me the perfect excuse to visit the island - a location I’m extremely fond of. In 2000, I began the ‘Man’s Best Friend’ project. Since then, I’ve welcomed any opportunity to return.

I have known Wendy for many years as she is originally from South West Scotland and her family are very dear friends.

The dogs, as you can see, are a handsome pair of Black Labs. Their home is wonderful and in a stunning location - South-West facing and overlooking the Irish Sea. To the right of the dogs you can see part of a very distinctive stone built observation tower. A fascinating and most unusual feature of the property. In the background you can see Port Erin.

Although also born in Scotland, Dumfries to be precise, Douglas loves his Manx home and flies the flag with pride.
